Β-Cyclodextrin Sulfobutyl Ether is the product of the substitution reaction between β-CD and 1, 4-butane sulfolactone. The substitution reaction can take place on the 2, 3, and 6 carbon hydroxyl groups of the β-CD glucose unit, theoretically leading to a β-CD derivative with a maximum degree of substitution of 21. However, due to steric hindrance and reaction conditions, the maximum degree of substitution is generally less than 10.
β-cyclodextrin sulfobutyl ether 182410-00-0 is white or off white amorphous solid powder with solubility > 50g in 100ml water. The pH of 30% aqueous solution is 5.4~6.8. The relationship between relative molecular weight and degree of substitution is MW = 1135.01 + CDs × 157.99, CDs is the degree of substitution.
